CIF resumes talks with state officers on when to play highschool sports activities

The California Interscholastic Federation, which governs highschool sports activities, has resumed talks with state well being officers in searching for a solution to fulfill its plan to launch the 2020-21 highschool sports activities season in December whereas coping with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Now that the California numbers are beginning to present enchancment, we’ve re-engaged with the California Division of Well being when and the best way to return as scheduled in December,” CIF government director Ron Nocetti mentioned Friday.

Nocetti spoke throughout a videoconference with the CIF Federated Council.

Soccer apply is scheduled to start Dec. 14, however the state tips should be revised for that to occur.

As for potential transportation points, Nocetti mentioned it’s as much as every faculty and district to determine how athletes will likely be transported to video games. Social distancing guidelines may drive districts to spend extra money on transportation.

“We clearly wish to hear from any faculty districts which have any considerations how they’re going to move youngsters to video games so we are able to convey that ahead to the suitable businesses,” he mentioned.

Nocetti mentioned the CIF is ready to maneuver ahead with its schedule of beginning soccer video games Jan. 8, however he added, “For that to occur we do want the state to permit highschool sports activities.”
